Health Instruction Initiative (HII)

Introduction

The Health Instruction Initiative (HII) is a flagship program under AKV designed to promote preventive health practices among the Kakuwa and host communities in South Sudan, Uganda, and DRC. Limited access to health information, poor hygiene, inadequate nutrition, and low first-aid knowledge contribute to preventable diseases like malaria, diarrhea, cholera, and malnutrition. HII empowers individuals and families with the knowledge and skills to prevent disease, act on health hazards, and lead healthier lives.

Justification

Many preventable diseases account for a significant portion of illnesses and deaths in African communities. Simple practices—handwashing, proper nutrition, and prompt first-aid—can greatly reduce health risks. HII bridges this gap by providing culturally-relevant, easily-digestible health education via community sessions, pamphlets, radio shows, and online resources, fostering long-term resilience and well-being.
