Livelihood and Food Security Initiative (LFSI)

Description

The Livelihood and Food Security Initiative (LFSI), under the African Kakuwa Vision (AKV), is a community-based program addressing food insecurity and sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable populations, refugee households, and host communities.

LFSI supports households to become self-reliant through improved farming practices, agribusiness development, and livelihood security, integrating agriculture, livestock, value addition, and climate-smart technologies.

Objectif

Empower households to achieve food security and long-term sustainability by providing farming skills, equipment, and market access to withstand food crises and economic vulnerability.

  • Promote climate-smart agriculture and responsible resource management.
  • Develop income diversification and livelihood skills for women and youth.

Eligibility

  • Households in Kakuwa and surrounding communities including refugees and host populations.
  • Vulnerable populations: female-headed households, youth, and those with disabilities.
  • Smallholder farmers willing to adopt sustainable farming.

Résultats attendus

  • Food production increased by at least 50% within two years.
  • 500 households trained in climate-smart agriculture and agribusiness.
  • 10 farmer cooperatives established for production and marketing.
  • Reduced dependency on food aid.
